Background:

Degeneration and disease induced declination in bodily function such as visual acuity, cognition, muscle strength and balance ability, would result in higher fall risk in elder people. Researches result showed that one in five of elder people aged 65 or above has experienced at least 1 fall episode within 1 year, and one in three of them would fall again in the following year. Besides, unsafe home environment and risky behavior would induce higher fall risk in those declining elder people. The consequences of fall could be serious, could include but not limit to reduced ability in mobility, difficulty in self care, chronic pain, and mood disorder. This workshop mainly aimed to share updated fall related information, explore and experience the related evidenced based interventions, including practical advices related to fall related home safety and risky behavior, balance and strengthening exercises that are integrated into daily life (Lifestyle-integrated Functional Exercise - LiFE), so as to promote the awareness and the intervening ability of frontline workers.
